The Maryland State House is built in two sections. This side is modern, built in the early 1900's. The other side dates back to before U.S. independence. Photo of older section.

More than 1,000 people attended the open house and celebrations. One decorated tree stood inside this building. This tree had the theme "Maryland Authors."

Thurgood Marshall, a Supreme Court Justice, began his law career in Maryland. This statue stands near the foot of the State House steps.
